Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan Needs ‘Unfettered’ Creativity, No Writers’ Room

Yellowstone writer and showrunner Taylor Sheridan has expressed his preference for a departure from traditional writers’ rooms. He emphasizes his focus on character-driven plots and exploring raw relationships, stating that “the freedom of the artist to create must be unfettered.” However, recent developments surrounding his projects, including Kevin Costner’s departure from Yellowstone and showrunner changes on Tulsa King and Special Ops: Lioness, have generated controversy and speculation.

Sheridan believes that writers’ rooms do not effectively translate his intended qualities onto the screen, as not all writers share his vision. While he acknowledges the need for budget compromises, he refuses to alter scripts to meet budget constraints. Determined to tell his stories his way, Sheridan has taken matters into his own hands by removing showrunners and personally writing episodes for his shows.
