Netflix Developing Epic Modern Western Show (Will It Be The Next Yellowstone?)

Netflix is set to develop an epic modern Western drama about family-owned ranches, possibly setting the stage for a new Yellowstone-like phenomenon.

Netflix is developing a Western drama about family-owned ranches, possibly setting the stage for the next Yellowstone in terms of popularity. The Costner-led drama has become the most successful series from the Paramount Network, drawing in over 7 million live viewers per episode in season 5 part 1. Its success has inspired multiple spinoffs while indicating a possible resurgence of the Western genre on TV.

Now, TVLine has confirmed Netflix is developing their own drama about family-owned ranches, clearly pulling inspiration from the success of the sprawling Yellowstone franchise. According to the streamer, the new series, titled Ransom Canyon, “charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.” Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes, featuring Josh Duhamel (Shotgun Wedding) and Minka Kelly (Titans) in the leading roles.

Will Ransom Canyon Prove As Successful As Yellowstone?

In Ransom Canyon, Duhamel will portray Staten Kirkland, the serious owner of the Double K Ranch on a mission to protect it from those who want to tear away at his success. Kelly’s character, Quinn, is described as a returnee to the region, looking to craft a new life following a pianist career in New York. It’s unclear how the duo’s lives will intersect, but it will no doubt have something to do with the family-owned ranches in the area.
